We know some of you may be concerned following the tragic events in Manchester earlier this week and we want to reassure you the safety of visitors, staff and livestock is our priority.
We’ve been liaising with police and security services and have reviewed our safety plans for the event to ensure public safety is at the forefront.
As a result of the raised threat level to ‘critical’ police have increased the number of officers on duty, both armed and unarmed, to provide a highly visible, reassuring presence across the Northumbria Police area. For the past few years we have had police at the event and it will be no different this year, the only difference will be as with the rest of the Northumbria area people will see armed officers on patrol. This is absolutely nothing to worry about, the officers are there to offer reassurance to those at the event.
Advice is currently remain calm but vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.
If you are an exhibitor trader or caterer, steward or volunteer and are on site over the weekend, we are hosting a series of briefings. There are several scheduled already; 7pm Thursday, 4pm Friday and 10am Saturday. Any additional briefings will be conducted on request at timings that are convenient for the individuals concerned.
